New Brunswick Youth Choir Now Accepting Auditions

The New Brunswick Youth Choir is a four-day choral residency for singers between the ages of 16 and 24 which will take place a the Université de Moncton from May 7-10, 2015 under the direction of Scott Leithead.  NBYC is an excellent opportunity for serious young singers to work with a nationally-recognized choral conductor and to connect with like-minded students from around the province who share a passion for singing.

Auditions for the NBYC are now open.  All auditions will be recorded and the file emailed to the New Brunswick Choral Federation office.  The audition will consist of a song sung a cappella which demonstrates the singer's range, technique and vocal quality as well as a vocal exercise which is assigned by the NBCF.  In addition to the recording, the candidate will include a letter of recommendation by a singing teacher or choir director and a general information form which is supplied by the NBCF.  Deadline for submitting the audition recording and supporting materials is January 15, 2015.

For further information about the audition or any aspect of the New Brunswick Youth Choir, please contact Dianne Roxborough Brown at the NBCF:   506 453-3731 or

Thirty singers from NB, PEI and NS had the opportunity to work and perform with one of our country's finest choral groups, the Canadian Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Julia Davids.  What a great experience this was for our singers.  Dr. Davids proved to be a delight.  Not only is she a very fine conductor and vocal pedagogue, but she has a wonderful sense of humour and although she had a very limited time with our singers, she used every second of rehearsal in the most efficient way and the talents of our NB Chamber Choir, the Canadian Chamber Choir and Dr. Davids were evident in the public performance on Saturday evening, September 20.

Thank you to Dr. Davids and everyone in the CCC who taught, coached, encouraged and shared their love of choral music with the Maritime singers.

The Canadian Chamber Choir/Choeur de chambre du Canada (CCC) is a national choral ensemble that provides a professional choral environment for Canadian singers, conductors and composers. They have a mandate to perform new and existing Canadian choral works, apprentice choral conductors, and facilitate workshops in all sizes of Canadian communities.

Wherever the Canadian Chamber Choir performs, they are met with praise for their expressive, committed interpretations, and their warm enthusiasm for sharing their gifts in the community. The Canadian Chamber Choir is about opportunity, and about excellence – opportunity for musicians from across the country to gather in song and reach for artistic heights; opportunity for communities, large and small, to share in that experience.

Choral Workshop with the Canadian Chamber Choir co-sponsored by the UNB Faculty of Education and the UNB Conservatory of Music: Tuesday, September 16, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall, UNB campus.

Following a short mini concert by the Canadian Chamber Choir, workshop participants will have an opportunity to apply these skills to a new piece, “Arching Starlight”, with composer Jeff Enns at the piano.

There is no charge for participation in this workshop.

The Canadian Chamber Choir, conducted by Dr. Julia Davids and accompanied by Fredericton native, Dr. Joel Tranquilla, will perform in concert on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Dunstan’s Church, 120 Regent Street. Admission to the concert is Adults: $20 and Students: $10. Tickets at the door.

During their September 2014 tour the Choir will perform concerts and present workshops in Rothesay, Fredericton, Saint John, Mount Allison University and Indian River, PEI. Their final workshop/concert of the tour will be with the New Brunswick Chamber Choir in Moncton on September 20.
